I didn't see any I was there 18 months ago. Went from Palermo and drove across to Taormina. Great place, and nice people. Traffic in Palermo has to be experienced to be believed, it's literally one big game of chicken.
If you go try and get a ferry to Stromboli for the day and see a live volcano.

I was looking at Sicily but heard it has been invaded by migrants. Does anyone know if that is true or just scaremongering by the press?

Sicily is cheaper, more beautiful and unspoilt.
and yiu can go to the little bar that features in The Godfather.

On these holiday threads, does 'nothing to do', 'boring unless you're over 40" etc... just mean that there isn't clubbing? Most of these places have plenty of bars, restaurants, beaches, sports facilities etc.... I just wondered what 'stuff to do' entails and why people who are, say, 36, will still demand it. Seriously, does it basically mean there isn't a street of clubs?

no, its a very upmarket place (mostly) which basically makes its money from six weeks of italian families coming from mid july to the end of august
Ive been three times in three areas and I dont think ive ever seen a street of bars or clubs- may be a few in the heart of the costa smerelda however you'd need a big boat and €€€ to get in there and do it properly

i'm biased - but Sicily is amazing. food, culture, people, the lot.
sad thing is that in 5 years it'll be loads more 'touristy'.
apart from Aquaviva........... that wont change.

Did Sardinia a few years ago.
Massively over-rated and over-priced.
Sicily was far better.

Also stayed in Pula, which is not too far from Cagliari. Nice enough if you just fancy the pool/beach but not a lot else to do.

Went with my family 10 years ago and I love it. Stayed in the Costa Smerelda area.
But one word of advice, if you go in August you can expect some of the beaches to get very crowded. Some of them were getting closed off by the Police by 11am.
I played golf with an Italian who owned a villa there and he recommended June as the best month. Great weather and relatively quiet.
And seek out the agriturismo restaurants. They're superb.

Same as Norwich but in Pula south of the island
If your over 40 and fancy a quiet one your love it , but not meant for youngsters

Stayed there for World Cup 1990,Alghero is nice and you will have a good time 👍🏻

Nearly gone several times and still fancy it. People I know who have really enjoyed it are outdoor types - brilliant walks, climbs, caves, archaeology, hidden coves and beaches etc...
Probably not bad for pilchards either!

Stayed in Porto Cervo, which is nice but there's not much to do unless you're into yachting.
Cagliari has far more to see, but is less upmarket.
If you've got a spare day it's worth doing the ferry over to Corsica, takes about an hour and a half from memory.
